Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Nicholas County Criminal History, you accept the practices stated in this policy.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Nicholas County Criminal History does not separately log or retain those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email message may be retained as needed to prepare and send a response. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers automatically receive certain technical details when a page loads:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • The referring website, when one is reported
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them
  • Device category and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic patterns, such as which pages are used most and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Directing a query to the selected search provider
  • Maintaining reliable and responsive site operation
  • Finding and repairing technical problems
  • Measuring which resources visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Nicholas County Criminal History does not sell, compile, or maintain a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies official routes to the Nicholas County sheriff, Kentucky courts, the Kentucky State Police Criminal Identification and Records Branch, and the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.

Third-Party Search Partners

Independent companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted through one of those tools is governed by that company's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each partner controls its own retention and disclosure rules, so review those terms before running a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to a sheriff, court portal, Kentucky agency, legal-aid resource, or outside search service. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to observe activity across websites and select targeted advertisements. We do not operate that cross-site tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search partners processing a visitor's query
  • Advertising networks serving content on the pages
  • Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

We use customary safeguards for information in our possession. No internet-based system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from a person under age 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Applicable Kentucky privacy and consumer-protection law may provide rights beyond those stated here. The Kentucky Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, governs access to records held by Kentucky public agencies, not private visitor data held by this site. At a minimum, you may:

  • Request access to information we hold about you
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Seek deletion of your information
  • Decline certain forms of processing

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. A new version becomes available here with an updated effective date, so visitors should review the page periodically for changes.

Effective date: July 26, 2026
